How to Use Siri with Podcast for a News Briefing

Technology has changed the way we work, read, listen and do things. Back in time, we used to read a newspaper, then we started reading a digital newspaper on computers, then on mobile phones, and now we like to listen to the news on the go. Podcasts are a good option for getting your daily news on the go. With Apple’s iOS 11.2.5 update, you can ask Siri to play the audio news. With recent iOS update, we can use Siri with Podcast for a news briefing.

How to Use Siri with Podcast for a News Briefing:

Siri uses iOS Podcast app for playing the news, you need to have your podcast app installed on your device before using this feature. If you have uninstalled podcast app then you need to reinstall it again. Once you have your podcast app ready, just follow the below instructions.

 

  • To activate Siri, use “Hey Siri” command. Don’t hold down the Home button to activate Siri. It only works with “Hey Siri” command activation. If you activate Siri by holding down the Home button, it will only bring up the news headlines.
  • Once you activate the Siri, say “Hey Siri, play the news”. You can listen to news of your choice, like sports, music etc. To switch between news sources, say “Hey Siri, switch to sports” etc.

  • Now, tap on the open podcast button to open news podcast and play the news.

Currently, this service is only available in the US, UK and Australia. Users can set default news providers like NPR, Washington Post, Fox News and CNN. As stated earlier, you can switch between different news sources by asking Siri to play news audio from a different source.

Amazon Echo and Google are already way ahead of Apple’s voice assistant feature. Siri can help iPhone users to perform a number of tasks, but it always required to hold the home button to activate Siri. This hands-free news-briefing is a small step towards big change in future. We can expect more feature in 2018 from Apple.
