How to Record Desktop Screen With VLC Player

You may need to record your desktop screen for recording a software tutorial, recording a demo of bug or to record a gameplay. There are a lot of dedicated software available for screen recording. Some of them are light-weight and some of them are heavy applications. But do you know, your VLC player can also record the desktop screen? Rather than installing additional software, you can record desktop screen with VLC player. Let’s see how to use VLC player to record desktop screen.

Step by Step Guide to Record Desktop Screen with VLC player:

Step 1: Open VLC media player.

Step 2: Click on media tab on the menu bar.

Step 3: Select Convert/Save tab.

Step 4: Now click on Capture Device tab.

Step 5: Change the Capture mode to Desktop from the drop-down menu.

Step 6: Once you change the Capture mode, you can set the number frames per seconds to record. Enter the number of frames you wish to record per seconds in desired frame rate box. You can set 30 FPS for smoother recording. As the number of frames increases, the recorded file size also increases.

Step 7: Click on Convert/Save button.

Step 8: Now Browse the destination URL for your video and give it a file name with extension as mp4.

Step 9: Click on Start to start recording the desktop Screen. VLC will record everything on the screen just like any other screen recording software.

Step 10: Once you finish the recording, click on Stop button to Stop the recording. Your video file gets saved automatically to the destination URL that you specified.
